MGH is the world’s leading research hospital, and has access to enormous amounts of patient data corresponding to the pathogenesis of diverse diseases, and the clinical outcome of specific interventions. MIT has the ability to invent new devices that can acquire large physiological data sets and harness massive computing power to extract information from this “big data”. Bringing together MGH clinicians with MIT engineers can lead to new devices and algorithms that are expected to transform the ability to diagnose disease states and determine optimal intervention strategies, thus improving the efficiency of overall healthcare delivery. Joint approaches by engineers and clinical scientists toward clinical/translational research are expected and projects that involve the use of clinical data are strongly encouraged.
